What are some good deer cleaning knives? What are some of your favorites especially lock blades?

I have used a Gerber Gator for years without fail and they keep a good edge. I like the non serated type, but that's just a personal preference.

Thanks, I like this one: Image it has a gut hook and it folds so it has basically everything.

I have Schrade 5inch with a guthook. Its a good knife, comfortable, rubber handle, but Im thinking of getting a folding knife next season. This one is great, it would jut be nice if it folded up.

My Schrade Old timer with gut hook has served me well , this past year i inherited a simple Remington Rubber handle gut hook model ( i saw it retail for $29.95), I was lucky to get a nice buck 2nd day of season and it zipped right thru it!! SINCE then (lol, a guy cant have to many knives) I bought a slightly used Buck Zipper on Ebay!!!

Gerber, Buck, Oldtimer <--- probably the three best quality knives... Buy a good one and it will last a lifetime.

Buck and Gerber make all kinds of knives I use several of each. The Buck knives seem to hold the edge a lil longer than the gerber..especially after ctting through deer hair and hide. I really prefer that rubber type grip as they seem to be easier to hold with gutting gloves on.

I love my Cutco serrated blades, have owned them several years and have never had to have them sharpend.

I have alot of the gerber gators. I do like the serrated ones but the serrated edge seems to get messed up easily. A very sharp knife out of the box. I still carry my trust schrade " old timer ". One of the best skinning knifes ever made!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Gerber serrated blades do dull quickly due the the soft steel, the Cutcos have s diffrent type of serration and much harder steel. I personally never cared for Buck knifes, I have owned 5 or 6 and given or flat out thrown them away. As I said earlier the Cutco knifes are more expensive, but well worth it. I have owned both types of their serrated blades and highly recommed the more expensive one. I have bought them for my son, and dad. I also have Schrade and Kershaw knives. I really like the Kershaw for skinning.

I have used my Schrade Ole timer for years, love this knife, never let me down and keeps a nice edge. I heard that schrade actually sold the company name and now all Schrade knives are being made in a foreign country now...Go Figure

gerber profile II

you can get them w/ or w/o gut hook, folding or fixed.

they are like 20 bucks at wally or like 25 at basspro, and they are sharper than a shot of lime juice.

I have about 10 hunting knives Gerber, Schrade, good old steal knives, and some I made myself (those big round sawmill saw blades make nice knife blades). What ever knife you have, just keep it sharp and don't use a big bowie knife type, less you like the smell of gut shot deer every time you cut a deer open. My father used a Barlow pocket knife, he even split the pelvic bone with it.

For skinning find a knife that has a curved blade, they make knives like that for skinning. Go to a butcher shop and you can see what knives they use for what job.

Guthook, bright colored handle. Right now I carry a western by camillus guthook, orange rubberized handle. I keep it scary sharp when I have the time, otherwise it goes thru at least 3 or 4 deer before it needs sharpened and man it will hold an edge, like a razor. Cuts the webbing for tree stands etc like butter.
