Ground Blinds

Postby schbrews » Thu Sep 01, 2011 6:29 am

Hello all,

I am kind of new to this and would like some opinions. I archery hunt at a camp in PA every weekend during the season but I am deathly afraid of heights. Are blinds efficient enough to try or am I wasting money. I hunt public land so I cant leave it set up. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If I were you I would just make a natural ground blind in the tall grass with branches about 10-20 yards from a path somewhere between the bedding area and the feeding area. Since you aren't in a tree stand, you're more likely to cast your scent and it would be best to get a deer walking on a path rather than expecting a deer to stay around like they would in a feeding area. You can just take a folding camo chair or stool to sit on. Make the ground blind as natural as possible so other hunters don't take your spot. Finding a fallen tree or big branch branch next to a path would be a great find, because then you can just add to it without much effort.

I would much rather hunt in a ground blind rather than a treestand. Bow hunting on the ground can be tough, simply because you having to pull your bow back/making movement right before the shot. You need to make sure you are covered pretty dang good and I would suggest getting one of the camo tent's, or making a "V" stand out of logs and branches.

If you have an area you know where you want to place your blind and keep it there put up one of these. It cost us $20 to make, is still somewhat portable (around the property) and the deer will never see you. Check out step by step instructions on how to build it here. http://www.bmgoutdoors.com/15/post/2011 ... er-20.html
