The .270 is a fine gun no matter what type of terrain you hunt. I wouldn't change a thing.

ummm like them other boys said, pretty hard to beat a 270, awful hard to.if yu want a shorter quicker handleing rifle look at the mod 7 rem or maybe a lever rifle in 44 mag or 30-30, 35 rem or similiar.i have a model 7 rem thats my choice for close in work.not crazy about some of the newer model 7,s with the plastic stock but they still mount fast and prob shoot fine.to make your own rifle quicker possibly, make sure your scope has a wide field of view at shorter ranges. like maybe a 2.5 or a variable scope no higher than 3x on the low end. lower power seems to increase field of veiw at shorter ranges makeing it easier to get on target quicker.low power also seems to pik up more light in darker deep woods conditions.also make positive your scope eye relief is set correctly.to do this loosen your rings and slide scope forward and backward a tad till it just lines up natural as yu shoulder the gun quickly.if yur huntin for your target in your scope when yu shoulder yur rifle, sumpin is wrong.if yuu do adjust be sure to chek it at the range and make any necessary adjustments.happy huntin!!!!

It shoots a little flatter and hits a little harder than the old .270 but not so much that the average hunter would notice a difference.

If you already have a .270, I would buy a .270wsm, there isnt enough difference for the expense. If you hand load, you can achieve .270wsm velocities and energy by loading a .270 with 150gr bullets. The proper "mix", I cant say.
