Gun values

Postby bahama02mama » Fri Feb 11, 2005 11:27 pm

My father had a gun collection and he has passed away and I need to sell them. How do you know a reasonable price to ask for them? Is there anything special I need know about selling rifles and handguns? Waiting peroids or registry or anything or is that for gun shops only? Any information would be very helpful. Thank you

We're all sorry for your loss Bahama --- our prayers are with you.

As to your question, I would suggest you go to a reputable firearms dealer to sell all the guns at once. Ask around with the guys at work or wherever, they can usually tell you which dealers are on the up-and-up. That way the serial #'s are logged in the transaction and it would be easier than trying to sell them individually. If you choose to sell them individually, you'll have to contact your local law enforcement re: regulations. In Mississippi, no transaction record is required on private firearms sales between individuals but that may be different in your state. :)

sorry about your loss.
you can go to wal-mart sporting goods, and they have a book called "The Blue Book of Gun Values". it should help you. not sure how much it cost($20-$30). thats if you dont want to go a firearms dealer. you can also put them on consignment at a local firearms dealer, like T said. they will help you with the price
