Gut Shots and Bow season

Admin Edit: This thread was split from another thread. It is a good question and worthy of discussion. It might shed some light on the subject.

I see where your getting at with all those questions doc.Any of us that has spent time at this game knows what the answers should be.Now lets step out of the box a little.
SCENERIO------You are bow hunting a nice cool 65 deg.morning to start off. been in the stand a few hours and along comes a deer that you are willing to take given the shot. You stay paitent wait for the deer to enter an open area and when it is presenting the shot you take it.Every thing felt good so you cant understand why you hit a little to far back. You see the deer leave the general area so you get down to get your arrow only to find gut on it.The alotted time allowed before you go after this animal is arguable.some say an hour some say four. You just remembered the weather channel saying it was going to be above 80 today and by now its already above 70.Do you wait 4 hours just to find a gut shot deer thats been sitting in 80 degree weather or do you wait a half hour and take the chance of pushin it.What if you do look for a couple hours and have no luck.Is it worth it to keep looking.I dont realy see the sense in going back the next day if its not for a rack.Since the meat wont be any good.I guess the one good thing about going back is you might find it and have the piece of mind that its not suffering. But other than that would anyone else go back?Again this is just a wose case scenerio that i hope none f us find ourselves in but i do think about it alot while hunting the hot early season.Let me know what you guys think.

I posted a story about a gut shot my brother in-law made. We took off after it immediately and actually caught up to it after following the blood trail for 2 miles. BUT that was with a gun and we were able to stop it there. With a bow if you caught up to the deer, given that it still had as much get up and go as this deer did, it would be pretty hard to get that second shot in with a bow. ..... I guess I'd allow some time for the deer to settle, but i dont know about four hours in that heat.
