Hand Gun for Bears

Buddy and I are going on an archery hunt in Wyoming, Unit 92. My question is what kind of handgun is recommended in case of a bear (black/grizzly) encounter? We will be carrying pepper spray as well.

A really really big one.I would take nothing smaller than a 44 mag,bigger if you got it.Amad or wounded bear is a freight train full of teeth and claws and it takes a lot to stop one.Good luck with your hunt. This should be big enough.

Nothing smaller than a 44 mag huh? Well, I guess I can live with that, I know these things need some real stopping power to put them down. Has anybody here tried something like what Brad Pitt did in Legends of the Fall like fight with a bear with a knife?!? Just wanna know.
Me and the boys are planning another trip in a couple of weeks to some private land from Acreage for sale, will just be packing some normal rifles and a couple of 9's... I would like to hear if you know anybody who did that knife with the bear thing though.
