Has anyone had this happen?

Postby splunge » Sat Jun 18, 2011 8:59 pm

Craziest thing I've seen:

We have tons of whitetail deer where we live. We had a deer in our garden tonight which we chased off, into the woods to the south. My kids were excited about it and wanted to see if there were any other deer. So we went to the other side of the yard which looks into a valley... they started calling/screaming HEEEERE DEEEEEER!, just like you would call a dog... NO LIE about a 1/4 away a deer popped up out of a grove of trees, jumped into a horse pasture, jumped that fence, crossed a road, jumped into OUR pasture, and ran up the hill to withing 30 yards of us! They were calling/yelling the whole time!

Has anyone had a similar experience?

I've never seen this, but is this common, or do I need to start a Hunting Guide business with my kids! :)

When we are out baiting our deer sites, quite often whitetails will come to within 35' of us and follow us to a bait. If we are set up on private land they will feed on the bait dribbled off the tailgate while we are at the bait site watching them.

Never had that happen but would suspect that deer is used to being around people. Probably been fed.

Several things come to mind and yes Ive seen it. How old did the deer look? Deer can be very curious and if it was a doe with a fawn(s) nearby she may have been attempting to lead the noise away?

couple weeks ago I had adoe in the garden 30 yards from my deck.I wanted to scare her off ,but not scare the 8 others in the feild.I loudly whispered"go away ,get".this crazy doe walked toward me within 10 yards ,and stood there looking up at us.after two minutes she just walked away calmly.

2 years ago a friend of mine killed a doe during the BP season and the start of the rut. It was WAY in the back of the property so we had a good drag ahead of us. He came out of the stand a few minutes early to get me. As he approached he whistled every so often so I knew he was coming. When I got out of the tree and near the edge of the field I saw him raise his gun. I looked to where he had to pointed and there was a 6 pointer standing there looking at him. He had come to check out what the motion and whistling was. I too called himt he deer whisperer after that one! They are very curious creatures.
