How Do I Hunt This Buck?

Postby dcamacho13 » Wed Oct 27, 2010 7:16 pm

There is this buck that has been around my stand on more than one occasion. Out of eight weekend days of hunting, I have spotted him three times. All three times he trotted from my north to the south and would not stop for a shot AT 20 YARDS. I know for sure that I am in his territory. He has also showed up at different times (7:30, 8:15, 9:00). My plan of action is to drag some tarsal scent to my stand, place the scent in my shooting lane to stop him and use a grunt call to bring him in. Good Idea? Bad Idea? What's the best way to put this deer in my freezer?

Also, what is everyone's opinion on blind grunt calling? Should I wait until he is in my sights or let him know ther is a "buck" in the area from the start?

From what I have picked up on this forum I might try some vanilla in your shooting lane, maybe he will stop and smell the roses, so to speak.

You can stop him with a soft wistle or a light bah out of your mouth.I find the bah to be more effective.as far as blind calling I wouldn't do it if u know there's a good chance of him coming in on his own.I know a lot of guys do it but I'm not big on blind calling.I like to see how the deer is reacting to it.
