How do I stop hogs from knocking my feederover?

Postby okriverhogs » Wed May 19, 2010 6:59 pm

Last month a hog came in and dug up around my t-post and put his nose between the t-post and my feeder leg and raised the t-post out of the ground, he did this to all 3 legs and had the feeder on the ground in 4 minutes. Got it on game cam. I put 6 t-post in and he did it again.

Drive your t-posts in on an angle, 2 at each leg and in opposite directions.
Or just let me shoot them for you

Ok I will try this, last week they chewed the wire off where I tied the feeder legs to the t-post.

Hogs are smart and after he finds a way he will continue to try the same thing, others will learn from watching him. Almost have to kill the smart ones to stop it.

it's interesting that you mention the "smartness" of the hog... they truly are....

growing up, my uncles and grandfather all said to watch them and see which hog they all seem to be following.... in most cases that marked the "alpha" hog and that would be the one that we would all be targeting.... they tell me of a hunt one time wherein they took down this one particular 'alpha' hog and noticed that the rest just ran about for quite some time.... when they settled down my uncles watched as a couple of males got into a big fight and when there was an appearant winner, it seemed that the rest of the pigs got up and followed his lead..... and then he was the next pig hunted!!

The crossed T post will work. We anchor our stands in Texas that way. Also another thing we have done to keep the pigs from trashing our feeders was put a tire around each leg flat on the ground then fill the tires completely with concrete. I would only recommend this if that is a permanent location but it does work.
