how do you lug your bow around?

Postby Dustin07 » Thu Mar 10, 2005 11:59 am

do any bow hunters here backpack as well? I think there is a good possibility that I will set up camp next to my truck this year, but in case I end up packing in a ways, i'm wondering how you all pack your bow? (i have a compound).

Do you just carry it, or do you strap it on your pack? something else?

thanks,

I live in delaware and we dont have any hills or anything but I do have some long walks. I just carry my bow in. You never know what you are gonna walk up on. I once was going to my stand in the afternoon and walked up on a buck coming out of a standing corn feild in september. This resulted in my first buck in velvet.

this is what i was worried about, lol... a good problem i guess though!

I think i will just plan on setting up camp at the truck, and hiking in for the hunt, rather than hiking in for the campsite, and then hiking further for the hunt...

thx

I strap it to my 4-wheeler til I get to where I'm gonna park .... then I just tote it in (strapped to my back).

Just carry it, if you are in the woods you should be hunting. If you want to hike and backpack join the sierra club LOL.

If you are on the rock slopes in Montana for ram and you have to travel miles to your location then I could see a backpack. Otherwise, I see no practicality to it on an average hunt. That goes for shoulder straps as well. Most of today’s products and accessories fall into the hype and gimmick category. Ask yourself do you really need it or does it just look cool?
Most every year I have a handful of students that spend there money on all the bells and whistles only to learn they wasted there money. They end up selling the crap to buy extra practical products.

Keep in mind this is just my opinion and because I think this way does not make me better as an archer just as a consumer.

I use a bow sling if I know I'm not going to need the bow on my way to my stand. It slips over the limbs and clicks in place.

Hey I guess the sling could come in handy but how do you really know when you need to nock and arrow and split somethin. I could use it when I am on the 3-d range. But I like to be ready to kill somthin!!! I have had the opertunity to kill alot of animals from the ground on the way to my stand.
