Howdy from TEXAS!

Postby Stan4231 » Fri Dec 30, 2005 8:14 am

Glad I found this site. I am a bit over 50 years old and fairly new to hunting. The learning curve is unbelieveable and getting enough of the correct equipment can be expensive, but worth it. Watching every hunting show, video, and reading everthing I can get my hands on. I mainly hunt at a friends ranch (free range) about 70 miles west of Houston. Many deer, hogs, coyotes, birds etc. So far this year I have harvested 2 does and going to get another one in the morning. Hunt mostly with a Savage 110GL left handed 30-06 with a Burris 4.5x14x42 Ballist Plex scope, also have a Remington 7400 270 win with a Burris 3x9x40. Looking forward to learning and sharing where I can.

Happy New Year!

Savage

Postby Stan4231 » Fri Dec 30, 2005 3:37 pm

Only have about 50 rounds thru the Savage so far... the last several 3 shoot groups were about 1 inch + or - at 100 yards. (several 2 almost on top of each other with a little flyer) Just got a New Burris Fairfield II 4.5-14x42 this morning. Ran home at at lunch mounted and laser sighted it. Off to the range at 5:00 to finish zeroing in and hunting early Saturday morning. I love the accu-trigger... no creep and a clean brake. I did replace the recoil pad with a 1 inch pachmyr and the recoil is mild compared to the Howa 30-06 (bolt was on the wrong side) I have. I will let you know more about the accuracy when I get a few round thru with this scope. It had the Simmons 9 Point scope on it that came from the factory and I did not like it at all. Right now just shotting Rem Cor Lck 150 grain ...

One more Doe in the morning... (that 10 point is in trouble if he jumps the fence) doing my part for herd management.
