Hunters Feeding the Hungry type organizations in your state

Postby Unlucky Buck » Wed Sep 02, 2009 2:32 pm

I'd like to hear about the programs in your state that allow for hunters to donate venision and/or other meat to people in need. Are there costs to the hunter? How do people donate to the organization? If you have links to their websites or news articles, I would love to read them.
Thank you.

Welcome to the DHC forum.

I am pretty sure that today most all states have a program for hunters to donate deer, elk, etc for the hungry.

Here in Kansas we had a (Hunters feeding the hungry) program for quite a number of years, the state sets some funds aside to pay for the butchering, not all butchers are in the program so you have to take the animal to one of the approved butchers and the state funds are not unlimited so once the funds run out if you take the deer in anyway they will ask you to pay a reduced fee for the butchering also to help defray the butchers employee costs.

A few years ago they improved the program, a state bill was introduced and passed in Kansas to include farmers into the program so now its called (KSFHFH) Kansas Farmers and Hunters feeding the hungry).

In NY we have the Farmers & Hunters donation program. Heres a link to the site:

We simply tag the deer and drop it off at the processors shop and tell them you want to donate it. I usually donate 1 doe per year. Id much rather do that than give money to any programs, at least I know the meat will go to feed people that need it, not to pay overhead.

Here we have sportsman against hunger.I never donated one because you still have to pay for the butchering.I think there may be some places that do it at a lesser cost but im not sure.

I live in Delaware and have participated in the Sportsman against hunger program.....these type of programs truly reflect well on hunting and hunters. Providing for the less fortunate AND being able to be out in the woods doing it.....doesn't get any better than that. Here's a link:

Although this saying might be a little cliche, it's so true... hunting is not just a passion, it's an obsession.....it's part of what defines my life.....and I wouldn't have it any other way!
