Hunting D8 (Sequoia National forest)

Postby a.hunter » Tue Sep 20, 2005 5:56 pm

Hi,
New to CA. (military). I have a D8 tag. Have been scouting online & in the National Forest. Would appreciate any advice on hunting this area.
Thanks,

You will see tons of does and few bucks but they are there. Work the burn areas early in the mornings. Alot of glassing early should pay off.
Good luck,

Sierra mulies

Postby Ferny310 » Thu Sep 13, 2007 1:59 pm

If you're serious about bagging a big Sierra mulie you're going to hike the ridges above 8000'. Thats one of the reasons why hunting is not so big in California.Unlike the east coast and some places in the south and mid-plains where hunting is done on flatland, here in California if you're hunting the Sierras you're doing some serious hiking. You will get winded and you will get leg cramps if you're not ready. I think that would also apply to the Trinity Alps. And make sure you have a good GPS. From experience it's not fun getting lost. And be prepared for unexpected weather. You can get snowed on in October. If you're not careful up there, you will die. It happens almost every season.
The worst part of deer season is the last day. 365 days before deer season starts and the counting's started.

Burn areas

There was a fire not too long ago I assume in Bonita meadow cause thats what they named the fire after. It burned there probably about a month or two ago. I don't know if there's any new growth already. Is that meadow secluded? I don't think it's anywhere near Sherman Pass road but I may be wrong
