I am going to shoot a turkey and was wondering about

Couple of things,

1. I am going to shoot from my stand. Am I going to have to worry about the bird flying off? I am not going to be able to climb down if that is the case.

2. I am using a Rage two blade head. Is that an overkill?

3. I would like to pluck the feathers off the turkey to have a whole turkey verses cutting it up. Any suggestions?

4. I would like to use the feathers on my carbon arrows. Anyone ever do this with success? Any advice on that.

Here I am with the turkeys near my feeder. Not hunting there. I will be near a corn field.

Turkeys are tough, Rages may not open as the turkey wont have alot of resistance to the broadhead. Most mechanicals wont open on turkeys. They run off almost every time. Watch where they go/direction and they arent hard to find. Most of ours go 20-50yards. We're allowed 2 here in the fall archery season and we use to take our limit in October. Shooting down out of a tree stand is best as the ground behind the bird will stop the arrow. Thats what you want, the arrow to stay in. Its actualy easier to get a shot from a ground blind then most treestand setups. As far as dressing I tried the plucking method, sucks. We tried blanching/waxing/praying to the turkey gods(LOL) and everything. Now we just skin them, I hate to as thats my favorite part the skin and rear end. I spent 3 hours on one using needle nose pliers pulling pin feathers and still didnt get half of them. If you figure out a method or device etc that'll do it please let me know, we give most of ours away anymore.

I found that tree stand hunting for turkeys doesn't seem to work to well. I guess I stick out like a sore thumb in the tree even with my ghili camo set up. I can see them getting ready to come in and change their minds. Happens every time. So I think I need to set up a blind on the ground. I will have to use some kind of judo point to slow the arrow down on impact.

I prefer an expandable on turkeys. Makes big holes, brings them down fast with proper placement(same with a fixed). You can put one of these behind your BH and it will keep the arrow from passing through. It will slide down the arrow as it enters, but stop once it gets to the fletching. This causes massive damage and makes it hard for the turkey to move if you hit them in the right spot. The one pictured is a zwickey scorpio point. Just so you know, I prefer hunting turkeys from a blind, more than from a stand. They will pick you out every time.

Just wanted to follow up on my post. I took the pictures down due to an idiot messing with them from another board..but anyways...

I used a Rage two blade on my turkey. Turkey went down quickly. Rage did a great job. The arrow passed through the turkey but didn't go far from where the turkey was at. My bow is at 70lbs with 360 grain arrow set up. Blades fully expanded and the impact was hard. Friend of mine shot one with a Rage too and same thing. Hit hard and his turkey didn't go far. I have to say these rage broadheads are just plain awesome!
