i cant find any deer

Postby pkerangel » Sun Oct 02, 2011 3:20 pm

heres the thing i found a spot with what seemed to be about 2 or 3 real good deer trails leading to a watering hole. there wern't much tracks but the trails were fresh. we set for about 2-3 hours and all we saw were some crows. its like that all the time we find good trails but not too many tracks. the only time we see deer is when we are on the atv either just ridding or on our way home from an unsuccesful hunt. my brother-in-law said he saw, with out a doubt , the bigest coyote he's ever saw about 200 yards away from the watering hole in a small field. could the coyote be the reason why its so hard to find deer. the place is located in tennessee so it has a lot of brush. lets cut to the chase, what signs and methods would use to know 100% that a deer is going to be near that spot the next day. is there like an atractent or something i could use. i've heard deer caine works realy good in this area. please help my bag a deer or at least tell my what i should do to bag that old coyote. thanks in advanced.

Put some trail cameras up and determine what time the deer are coming to the watering hole. Find out there enter and exit locations. And watch the wind direction (which is very important). You may also be pushing the deer our of there with your atv, due to noise and could possibly be a bedding area for the deer. Find an easy and accessible way to enter your stand as quietly and quickly as possible. Depending on your local game laws, try putting out some acorn rage by wildgame innovations, apples, or just a bag of corn. As far as getting the coyote, your could try a coyote call such as a rabbit in distress call, or try a deer attractant that has some kind of sugar in it, like buck jam apple flavor. Coyotes have a sweet tooth and will lick the jam just as much as the deer.
