I wish I could take it back!!!!!!!!!

Well I finally got a chance to go out deer hunting tonight. I was set up at 5:30pm ( running late ) I was hunting state land. At 6:15 I looked down the edge of the field and a 4 point came out. He kept looking behind him. I ranged the little buck at 60yds. I joked and said not today little fella you arent the one!! Then he looked back and I saw horns moving in the edge of the pines. I then could see half of the deer. It to was at 60yds. This looked to be a nice buck. I ranged him again. The same 60yds. I then made a poor decision to take a shot. I put my 60yd pin on the bucks shoulder and released. I watched the arrow burry in his shoulder all the way to the flechings. I saw him wheel hard and go back in the cutover. I know I can make this shot but the was a storm front coming. Before I could get down it was raining. And if any of you have tracked deer in pine needles its hard without the rain. I did hear him crashing before I could get down. But the blood was faint and I lost it just 50 yards into the track job. Now I am wishing I would have waited to see what he would do. I am at work now and it is 70 degrees. He will most likley spoil and its all my fault. I will try to do him as much justice as possable and pick up where I left off in the morning. I feel sick. I know I smoked him but now I have no blood. There was only about 5 inches of arrow hanging out of his shoulder. I know he is dead and this is what is psssssnnnn me off!!!!!

Man I hate that for you Bam. I have had that happen a couple of times and it just sucks. Let us know how you turn out.

Thats the biggest reason I dont bow hunt in the rain, Id be afraid of losing one. Get someone with dogs out there, we have something called Deer Search Inc, which is a bunch of volunteers that try to track deer for people that lose track of them like that. They always bring a few dogs with them.

We found the deer today. It was about 180 yards from where I shot it. It was and 8 point that was 15 inches inside spread. I wish I had a camera when we found it. It looked like the good year blimp. The foxes had gotten to the hind end and the entrance wound. I hit it just as I thaught. About 6 inches from the top of the back just at the edge of the shoulder and the arrow had exited the off shoulder dead center. I am still sick about it. Just knowing that I would have found that deer fairly quickly if it had not rained.

wish i could say that never happened to me..but i can't..... about the same thing happened late last fall to me......we tracked that buck till midnight with a lite mist.... i went back home, picked up my female black lab... put her on a ten foot leash.....brought her to the middle of the blood trail.......then let her do the rest.....she walked right up to that buck like she had been doing that for years.......wish i had learned to use her long before i did..........
ONE SHOT......STOP
