I had a 44 mag Ruger Super Redhawk with a 10 inch barrel. I mounted a 3 x 7 Luepold scope on it and man was it a nice rig. With a REST, i had about a 3 inch group out to 115 yds. At 50 yards the group was in a quater. I sold the gun after moving back home in an area where i couldnt hunt with it, but it was a good performing round on the deer. I never took a deer over 100 yds with it but it was very deadly up to that point. I cant remember what grain bullets i shot. For the gun and scope like i had you're looking at around 900 to get started.
I really enjoyed mine, and it was pretty rewarding taking deer with a handgun too. Dont hunt until you have practiced until you cant take it anymore. Hunting with a handgun is a different world. Give it a try and good luck.
