In the same boat....

Postby cut_un » Thu Nov 04, 2010 5:18 pm

Guys, noticed with all the responses to the post of having a piece of land available for hunting. Seems like we all have the same problem..... dressed up with no place to go.( I deer hunt behind my house these days)
Wondering if we pooled our time/talents together we could join together and find/form our own upland club...... I did this several years ago...sort of, a few friends and I decided to drop out of a local deer club and do our own thing. I called a local timber company, got a map of their holdings and over a short period of time, looked at 10,000 acres, finding a spot with a mile of river front....they are out there!
I no longer hunt with the group as I got into waterfowing, big time.
At this time myself,I am looking for a place to deer hunt bow hunt and hunt the rut, then I'll move on to waterfowl. I also enjoy spring turkey hunting so I'd hit it pretty hard in the spring too. 'We'll share the work and whatever the lease fee is,we all split. The number of members will determine the size of the tract of land...when/if we find a suitable parcel . I'm game, how about you guys?

Where in VA are you talking about? If it is close to me then I would be interested. I am in Williamsburg.

Myself,I live in central Va. Chesterfield to be exact, which is just south of Richmond. Most of my hunting has been within 1hr.-1 1/2 hr. from home and, pretty hunt in all points of the compass. Like you guys,I'd like to stay as close to home as possible. Looks like ...at this point something NE of Richmond would be in order..... We are looking at a triangle of territory..... Timber/farms or leased lands turned loose by any area clubs are the focus, I'll start poking around, you guys put your feelers out too!

First Scruggs, welcome to the site! That makes two of you in the northern reaches. We are trrying to find a piece of land ....somewhere between our"small" group,so we will all have somewhat equal driving distances. The lease fee will be split equally as well. Other than that, just details to be decided :D Hopfully we can find a spot to call "HOME"in the near future. Keep your ear to the pavement

Heck, maybe someone on here knows of a club that may turn some land loose after this hunting season......some clubs are having a hard time paying the bills .

I will keep my eyes open for some possibilities. I know of a 75 acre plot on the Northern Neck, but I am not sure if it is huntable yet. I will try to find out more in the near future. I will keep y'all posted.

At this point...... and it's only my thoughts here. All now know is we now have pooled together funds to put towards a hunting property. Split however many ways?? Anything, land wise has possibalities. We can find spots ,farm or timber& continue to upgrade or add too as we go along. :D

Have been in touch with a few "timber lands" leasers .....it's pretty much "over" for this season..... Knew that! Their recomendation is to check back after the '10-'11 season as they will be thinking"next season" ALso, they recomended getting in contact with hunt clubs for a heads up to the fact that they may have lands to sub-lease or property they may be turning loose next year. Guess we just need to keep our nose to the wind! Mean while, kill em! Cut
