juvinile hunt

Postby classicauto » Tue Oct 26, 2010 1:36 pm

juv. hunt is this weekend and i was asked to take a kid to hunt. here is the problem the property the guy owns has no stands on it and we will have to hunt off the ground. i went and did some scouting and there is some sign of deer and have seen a couple of deer while i was there. but not on there side of the property.here is a map of property and lines marking what things are. red lines mark clear cut areas that are about 10yrs old and still are to thick to walk through. white is the property line that we can hunt with in.blue looks like a funnel between a pine thicket and a open clearing. purple lines mark a pine thicket. yellow lines mark stand of oak trees and poplars.orange is just a bunch of different trees. and green is a hay feild. i saw to deer on the logging road leading to the back of the property yesterday. have found no scrapes or rubs anywhere but no there are big deer on this property cause i have seen them a night driving to the barn in the back on the small hay feild. any indeas where to sit at to get a good oppertunity for this kid to kill his first deer.

over look the green field during the day hunt and if they move in there during the night they should start to come out during sunset.

good luck

I would recommend setting up near one of the clear cut thickets and a feeding area (although it's hard for me to tell if/where there are any feeding areas on the map). Positioning in this area is your best bet, and you may even catch a buck cruising for does in the process. Let us all know how it turns/turned out.
Although this saying might be a little cliche, it's so true... hunting is not just a passion, it's an obsession.....it's part of what defines my life.....and I wouldn't have it any other way!
