land for lease - need advice on pricing

Postby SlimJim » Thu Sep 03, 2009 6:29 pm

I have 100 acres in northern, central NC with a cabin furnished to accomodate 3 or more people. I'd like to lease it out by the week during this year's whitetail season, but I really don't know where start in trying to find out what a reasonable rate would be. Any advice???

Lease by the week? I wouldnt lease anything for less than a season, so I couldnt tell you what a fair price would be to me. You need to give more details about the land if you really want a half way decent answer.

Good point, NYB. Here's what I posted on craigslist earlier in the summer:

lease available on 100 acres of hunting land that includes a small, rustic cabin w/ kitchen, living space, full bath w/ washer/dryer, small BR on main floor, loft bedroom upstairs, gas heat, & covered porch.

~30 acres of clean cutover recently logged, ~40 acres of thick, old cutover, ~25 acres of hardwoods, some open land

Just minutes from recreational Hyco Lake!!

As NYB states, leasing by the week is a bit unusual I think. I would guess that most potential leasors would want to scout and plan the hunt and select stand locations themselves. (All before the hunt).

A seasonal lease might be better for you as well, as it would be less work on your part, and you would likely end up making the same amount of money. (Weekly rates higher, but probably won't be full every week).

If there is lots of public land nearby, weekly rentals might work, so hunter can use it as a base to hunt the larger public areas.

As far as cost goes, I'm not sure, but I think some of the other guys can tell you what they think.
