Late Season Hunting

Got questions about what to grow and when to grow it? This is the place to ask.

Late Season Hunting

Postby JeffKMN » Thu Dec 30, 2010 4:19 pm

I need some info on what to plant for late season muzzleloading.
I hunt in Minnesota and want ideas to get the deer to come and stay in my 40 arcas.
It has crop fields around with corn beans and some grains. But by the time ml season comes around most of the crops are gone.
The deer come through but don't stay.
I have trails and small spots that I can seed. The trail are 10'-15' wide and the spots are 1/8 to 1/2 arcas
Thank Jeff

It might be a little late to plant but if you had planted in the late fall for winter food plot hunting, I would go with brassica. Deer don't seem to hit brassica very hard until the first frost. Once the frost and winter hits, they seem to be all over it. If baiting is legal there, maybe try throwing some corn on the ground with the brassica right near your stand, it will give them an extra reason to stop and stay close enough to graze and hopefully give you a shot.
