"Law of the Land"

Postby mkathyf » Thu Sep 23, 2010 9:43 pm

OK. Hang with me and try to follow.
I need to understand this experience my husband had.
Here's the story:
John's (husband) friend Jeff and George know some people in PA who own several acres of land. They have invited Jeff and George to hunt their land...and they include John.
OK. So, last year, on the last day of the trip, John meets the son of the man who owns the land. (his name is Fred) Fred hates deer hunting but loves trout fishing. Fred and John began talking about trout fishing and Fred told John he would call him when the "season" was in. So, several months later, John receives a phone call from Fred, inviting him to come to PA to trouth fish the streams. John went....they fished in public streams (never came near his dad's property where they deer hunted....nor did they even see the other people). John stayed with Fred at his girlfriends house and they all went fly fishing again the next day....on public land.
OK. Now, John's friend Jeff is beyond FURIOUS because John has not followed the "law of the land". He claims he has abused things by going fishing with Fred, because he met Fred through Jeff's contacts! Thus, a 20 year friendship has ended with no signs of mending. He said John should have called him to tell him he was going there to fish.
What am I missing here? Is this crazy or what?!?!?!

There is some code of ethics with respect to property rights among hunters. Some people have a hard time getting permission to hunt on good land and other hunters should respect that, especially if it's a friend who has the permission. That said, I think Jeff is WAY overreacting. If that's all the facts, John did nothing wrong. Maybe Jeff was just jealous he did not get invited.

In any Case, Jeff needs a spanking. With friends like that, who need enemies.

I could see him being upset if he went up there and HUNTED the property with the son behind everyones back. but to go FISHING somewhere else nowhere near the said property is a whole different ball game. i think that someone is a little jelous that your husband made a new friend. and like it was said earlier.... my son has the same problems with immature friends.....he's 7. hahaha

Give him a hankie and tell him to dry his eyes and grow up or go snivel somewhere else.
