I hunt spot and stalk along with baits. We have in N.W. Ontario thousands of acres of blueberries to stalk our bears. Where do you bear hunt along with what methods do you use for hunting your blackies.

Up till this week, baits produced well this fall. This week ( Sept. 12 ) the bears are nocturnal so we turned to the berry patches. Spot and stalking the patches are paying off!! One patch produced 3 stalks today( Sept. 16 ), shot 1 bear. These patches are hundreds of acres of clear cuts. Our group also bagged 2 Timber wolves yesterday. Wolf season openned on the 15th.

Dogs all the way. Treed plenty during training season, some nice ones. Regular season started Monday, I've been taking a kid for his first bear and I was able to get him out of school Tuesday and we treed, but it was a small one, maybe 100lbs, I talked him out of shooting it, but it might be awhile before I can get him back out because of school and the guys I run with usually have someone paying for a hunt on Saturdays. We have until the end of Oct, so it shouldn't be a problem getting him a decent bear.

Bearhunters just came in with a large male timberwolf. Makes it the third wolf this week. They shot and missed two other wolves.

Spring bear here (Prince George) is a roady, spot and stalk thing, mostly in logging slashes.

For a really good "burger bear", my preference is a fall oatfield scenario. But bears are so common here that they are usually incidental to moose/deer hunts.

Only been on one bear hunting trip. It was a weeklong guided trip in NB Canada. It was a spring hunt over bait and was lucky enough to kill a 350 lb black bear with my TC Encore 50 cal. smokepole. That was cool & hope to do it again at some point!

Just got back from purchasing my bear bait this afternoon. Went to Lucky Seven Bear Bear Baits out of Cambridge Mn. Came back with almost 1000 lbs of gummy bears and candies made out of fudge, along with 4 (200 lbs. ea.) barrels of crushed cookies. I'm going out on Friday to put baits out just for fun and trail cam pictures, season starts Aug 15. I also use popcorn mixed with resturant grease & strawberry jello powder, which we pop ourselves.
