Looked at several bows today.

Well, today I spent too much money on my bow. I spent about $1000 for the Bowtech Admiral set up with a PSE fall away and some very nice micro sites to go with it along with a peep site. After I left, I think I had a little bit of buyer's remorse since I already have a new PSE Thunderbolt X compound bow. I got to shoot a Hoyt Alphamax 32 which shot real nice. I also shot a PSE Bow Madness which was about $200 less than the Admiral and Alphamax32. I thought the PSE Bowmadness was a nice bow and seemed to shoot faster. (Draw length was longer on it than the other two bows which probably explains it). It was real hard to decide on what bow to get. I went with the Admiral because of all the good reviews it got and it seemed to have a little more better quality build than the other ones. Honestly I didn't seem to see a huge difference in when I shot them. They all seemed to be pretty quiet bows. All had about 320 IBO speeds and where the same in dimensions for the most part. Since Bowtech has had rave reviews I went with that one. Now here's the kicker of what I learned tonight....

My PSE Thunderbolt X I brought with me to compare. I had a draw length of 29" I think or might have been 30". Anyways I always thought this bow was nice but could never get a consistent shot. Wasn't sure if it was the bow or not. Well we adjusted the bow to 28" and holy smoke, what a difference in comfort and shooting. My anchor points where all messed up.

...cont..

My anchor points where all wrong until we shortened the length of the bow draw. It was like shooting a new bow to me and I was amazed what a difference that made. I should have gone to this fellow instead of BassPro. This guy knew his stuff and spent time with me explaining everything. I didn't want to cancel my sale with him plus I do think I should get a different bow anyways...but I now have two bows that I think will shoot awesome. UUrghh! $1000 bucks lighter in the wallet...oh well what you going to do. I will not be buying anymore bows for a very long time. Time to work on technique instead.

Should I use a shorter arrow now and increase the pounds to the full 70lbs to get max speeds out of my bow now?

I think it would depend on the broad heads you are using or want to use and how much penetration you are already getting. You may also want to see if increasing the weight messes with your accuracy. There's no right or wrong answer here, since you still have most of the off season left, get 3 shorter arrows and increase the draw weight and see how she shoots. Then decide if you want to keep it or change it back. What draw weight are you currently set at?

right now I am at 60lbs and think about going up to help increase in speeds, but don't know if that is wise or not.

If it were my bow I would put it somewhere between 62-65 lbs but that's about it. Also, they say that you should weigh 180+ lbs to shoot at 65-75 lbs. I'm not sure why but I am about 6 feet tall and weigh 230 and have my bow set at 62 lbs and it works for me.

I got the bow home today and like it so far. Very accurate. The bow doesn't seem as quiet as I was hoping it to be but still very nice. Only thing I don't like about it is that it's kind of heavy. I shot it through one of those arrow speed testers. It averaged about 286 with a 340 grain arrow.
