Postby Bang4bucks » Mon Aug 23, 2010 2:40 pm

I am looking for anyone looking to get rid of any traps or trapping supplies. Including: foot traps, conibares, live traps, trap accessories, skinning tools, scents, baits, basically anything to do with trapping. I live in the Manassas area. I am willing to pick up anything you want to get rid of as well as pay a fair price. Feel free to email me at ccaylor@setcorp.com Thank you very much!!

Well idealy i am looking for 1 1/2 up to #3 foot traps either 2 or 4 coil spring. Also looking for dog proof coon traps. and 120 up to 220 body grip traps. If you stumble upon snares, disposable stakes with the cable already attached, or any other trapping or skinning stuff, let me know.

Have you looked at the new Duke DP traps? You can buy them new for what most DP's cost used. Order $100 minimum from the Duke factory and the shipping is free. Buddy ordered some of the DP's and Im impressed. They told him theres been a run on them and they are having to backorder some. I'll see what we got extra as far as footholds. Snares are only legal for beaver here so we dont mess with them much.

I personaly dont care much for any DP trap. Ive had very limited success with them. We make our own DP setup now with either a metal coffee can lid or similar. No.1 coil works good but we have used 1.5 coils too. No.11 and no.1 1/2 SLS will work too(lid works better then a "double jaw" keeping the coon etc from getting to the trapped member) but requires more digging. Just cut/drill the hole in the lid or what ever you use(old plastic frisbees work too but get chewed up first few coons) etc 1 1/2" wide, no bigger. Wire the lid etc to the first link in your chain so if a dog etc flips the lid it will take the foothold too and trip it most times. Ive been experimenting with this setup for about a decade now. Its dog proof as far as any dog that cant get his paw in the hole. If you use non meat/fish base bait or a sweet lure then cats and smaller dogs wont bother it either. Marshmallows and honey or maple syrup are good mix's. Ive got one farm that Ive trapped for a decade but couldnt set footholds on land. After showing them this lid DP setup they agreed this year to land trapping. I can give you the exact details for making the set if your interested. I dont think I have many no.2 coils left. We dont use them and I traded a bunch off on several trapping sites. 1.75 coil is the max we set on land except for one log crossing set that I use an old no.2 coil on. Our 2 1/2 SLS's we keep for our collection (and maybe otter if they ever open a season here)and 3's and 4's we use for beaver. I will check though and ask around. How long you been trapping?

yeah i am not a big DP fan either but i only have to use a few when i get closer to farm house. theirs only one place i trap that has a dog its its a huge german shepard. I usually trap coon, fox, mink, and coyote. well then of course your gonna catch the occasional opposum or skunk. So i find that 1 3/4 and #2 coil springs work best for me. i also use some coni's. 110-120-160. And i also run some 3/32 7x7 snares. I do it more as a hobby. been doing it since i was a young kid. I started by live trapping rabbits in homemade live traps and trasporting and releasing to our property to better our rabbit numbers. then i started trapping coons and opposum out near the corn crib and alone the corn fields. then when i was about 14 i caught a young coyote in a coon set. and it was one from then on. If it walked, i trapped it. i had a big time trapper that lived a few miles away and i was just giving him everything i trapped and he kept me supplied with traps and snares. it worked out for us. now over the years i still do it. still as a hobby. nothing crazy. never gonna get rich trapping.
