Luring deer with in range.

Postby Savagearms » Thu Nov 12, 2009 9:46 pm

This is the problem I am having trouble getting the deer in a good position to take a shot. I have seen four deer two buck and two does one a day and there were two days were I did not see anything. How can a hunter other than the bleat calls and the buck grunts call a deer within kill range I have tried the battle bag I have tried estrus scents and intruder buck scents as well as Primos bleat calls and Flextone buck grunts. I use cover scent earth wafers and pine scent as a secondary scent so that the earth scent is not to over powering. I am sure scent is not the problem because I have had deer walk right behind me without even blinking an eye brow I want to know how to I get the deer to move from the rear of a stand to the front of a stand.
Always learning.

Ever think about moving the stand?

If you think the deer have found out you are in the stand and thats why they are going around try placing another stand beyond the deer where they are coming thru.If you move the stand they allready know they might notice.Leaving the origenal stand where it is and moving downwind is something I have done many times.Once I entered a hunting club that had established hunters using the same stand locations year after year and I found all the deer by hunting downwind of these locations, worked even more when these hunters where actually in the stands.Remember thuogh deer can smell a long way so downwind may be 300 yards away depending on the terrain or could be 50 yards in a thicket

Something that got me last night was being skylighted through the back windows. My wife was going to make me some curtains but hasn't gotten around to it yet. But, if you have openings in front and behind, game can see you pretty easily.

I had 3 does under the feeder and they saw me. Damn.
