IMO, they are overrated. There are bows just as good for less money. I am not saying that I wouldn't own one. I'm just saying that I wouldn't spend that kind of money for a bow.

Im with Doc. They are nice, but my PSE shoots just as well, is just as smooth and quiet and cost half the price or less.

I have shot the Mathews and yes it is a very nice bow. Highly overrated in my opinion. There are many bows on the market that do just as well if not better. PSE, Browning, Diamond, Parker, Bear to name a few.

PSE is a great bow. I had an older PSE Thunderbolt and accidentally dropped it out of my stand last year. This year I picked up a leftover 07 Octane, and it is nothing short of awesome. Very smooth, fast and quiet. I picked it up for a song and a dance, Id recommend seeing if you can get a left over of last year's model like I did. I have less than half the price of a new Mathews into my whole setup.

Do you think A bow shop would be cheaper than Bass pro,or Cabelas?

A bow shop may not be cheaper but it has been my experience that it is hit or miss at Bass pro etc. as to whether the staff is knowledgeable enough to answer all your questions or help set your new bow properly. Most bow shops will have someone that knows what they are talking about. Ask around and someone will give you the name of someone who is trustworthy in your area.

Matthews FX

Postby BBQ Bob » Thu Oct 02, 2008 7:41 am

I bought a Matthews FX in 05'. It was considered last year's model and the basic bottom line matthews bow. I got it for $500. I absolutely love it. It is small, light and has been a great bow.

Ditto to many times have I seen bows set up by the big package stores that are really screwed up as far as the set up is concerned. A pro shop may be little more but if its a good one they will get you set up properly.
I'm a Mathews fan sorry. I would suggest you shoot serveral bows and find the one that feels good to you !! and fits your wallet. There are no bad bows some just better than others.

Compound Bows

Postby HuntingGearGuy » Wed Oct 08, 2008 5:44 pm

I have a bear whitetail hunter that is 20 + years old and has never let me down when I need to make that shot. If you want a boe that will last a lifetime at an affordable price and with performance that will match the competition , Buy a bear bow you will not be disappointed.
Happy Hunting,

hey there,
shop around ,and no matter what you buy, make sure
you fit the bow to you .not you to the bow.!
I have a pse thunder bolt , and a sq2 matthews
i had a bear.
there all good ,but the matthews shots the best!
i`m sure everyone will agree . find a good dealer.
and try a few out, a good dealer will not mind setting up a few
bows for you to try, its a big investment .
good luck and happy hunting.

I own a mathews feather lite, and IMO, is a great bow, i bought it used fully equiped for $250 from a mathews dealer. I have killed 8 deer with in in 4 years and it is a great bow...however i dont htink that the brand new ones like the dxt or switchback are smart to buy right away cuz they are highly over priced, just do what i do and get a used one which is slightly older, cheaper and still does hte job great...I would also have to say i am impressed with the PSE and HOYT brands.
why pass up a 2.5 year old? Because next year he will be a 3.5 year old.

I shot a Bear for 3 years then a PSE for 5 years. And I'm not knocking either of them I killed deer with both they were great. I bought a Mathew's Swithcback XT, daylight and dark difference from what I was used to. Speed, quietness and forgiveness is great I am sold for life won't own another. Just wish they'd quit coming out with new ones, it makes me want another.

Your last sentence is the key, no matter what bow you buy you have to like it and it has to feel good to you. To many people buy bows wihtout even shooting them first. Anyone thinking of buying a bow should shoot as many as possible to find that perfect fit and feel.

My buddy bought a Switchback XT last year after shooting a PSE and he raved about it and told me to me to get one. I had shot a Hoyt for a couple years and just bought an SQ2 and will never shoot anything else. They're pricey but worth every nickel.

Mathews

Postby dreamer73 » Fri Nov 07, 2008 11:41 am

Hey there. I have been bowhunting for the last 24 years and have owned a variety of bows, including Mathews. Several years ago, you had to watch what you bought, but today, there are many great bows on the market from all of the manufacturers. I have owned Martin, Macpherson, Mathews, Browning, PSE, and Hoyt. I have harvested many deer with all of them, no monsters though. I am currently shooting a PSE, after trading in my Mathews MQ32. My PSE shoots just as well as the Mathews did. Just shop around and see what shoots and feels right to you. Good luck and happy hunting.
Live for today because tomorrow may never come.
