I'd imagine that if I had the money, then sure. However, you can't kill a deer anymore than you already can with any other bow. A bow is a bow in my opinion; sure a gain in a few more FPS, slightly smaller frame, and weight of the bow is better, but if it's worth $600 is up to you.

The Switchback line of bows have been discontinued for a while now.

Douglas is correct in that you can kill just as many deer with a slower bow than one of the eye bleeding speed bows that cost a lot more, you just have to make it quiet that it doesn't spook game when released.

That $600 is about 3/4 the price of some of the most highly priced brand new 2009 bows at retail price minus the silencers, etc so thats another reason I would say (No its not worth it).

Just my opinion though, some don't even blink when paying $1,500 for a new bow and may feel $600 for a used Matthews is perfectly reasonable.

The way I look at it is, if you think it is worth it, then it is. It is your money that is being spent and if you feel comfortable with that price, then buy it. Like BH pointed out, you can get a new bow for that now. PSE has their Bow Madness XS bow priced at $619.99 ready to shoot, minus arrows. That is the bow, quiver, sight, rest, loop. It is a GREAT bow. I have shot one and with only the string stop, is almost silent with little to no hand shock. All you need are arrows.

[quote="Bowhunters"] you just have to make it quiet that it doesn't spook game when released.[quote]
A quiet bow is great and sought after, but it doesnt mean that you cant kill deer. My bow when new was at the time one of, if not the fastest bow on the market and sounds like a .22 going off, even with silencers. My bow when new, 2004, had an IBO of 333fps. You just have to watch the way the deer is acting before you take a shot. If the deer is acting all sketchy when it walks out, it doesnt matter how quiet a bow is. The deer will 9 out of 10 times drop out on the shot and you will miss.

I didn't mean it as an absolute must that a person has a super quiet bow, just that its always desirable over a noisy bow regardless to the the bows speed. Perhaps I could have worded it differently but I doubt he wouldn't understand what I meant.

I have no doubt that all things being equal that a quiet bow will give a bowhunter better shot placement and shorter tracking jobs on average over a noisy bow that to deer probably sounds like was mentioned of a gun going off.

I agree nothing will probably help on deer that come into range and they know something isn't right and they are already on (pins and needles).

Even on the fastest bows deer can (jump the string), maybe not enough to cause a complete miss on a close in shot but it can certainly cause bad arrow placement and long blood trails and maybe unrecovered deer in the worst situations after medium to long shots. Its simply my contention that a quieter bow will help minimize the number of times that happens.
