model 94 scope mount?

Postby rww86426 » Sat Aug 15, 2009 1:19 pm

Hey all, Ive got a win.94, bought it with my paper route money when i was 11. Dont have the coin for another rifle right now. Is there a way i can mount a scope? Im dead on at 100 yards with stock sights. But Have been reading about new rounds that could push this old rifle out 150-300. Thanks in advance

Probably the only way to mount a scope on that is to take it to a good gunsmith and see if he can drill and tap scope mount holes into the top of the receiver.

I said 'see if he can' because some old lever action rifles I don't think you can mount a scope onto the receiver so I would find a good gunsmith in your area and take it to him and let him look it over, if he's experienced he will know by just looking at it.

If you don't know what that means, he will have to drill small holes in the top of the reciever and then run a tap through them to create the threads for your scope rings to attach to.

I don't know how much it would cost as i've never gotten that done but I doubt that would be too expensive as long as you don't rush him.

I'm assuming you've already looked at the top of the receiver to see if there are little plugs on yours (4ea), if it was drilled at the factory they put little dust plugs in the tapped holes so give it a look.

Thanks bowhunters, Yeah, thats what i thought too. No factory taps, dont trust ANYONE in my area with this rifle. Had it 30+ years. Top eject, empty comes straight up & back. Guess Ill just have to get closer, & shoot straighter.....HAHA Thanks again

Yeah on those top eject lever actions the only way to put a scope on them is with a mount that attaches to the side of the receiver.

From everything I hear they pretty much blow chunks as it places the scope off to the side.

Like you said get closer and shoot straighter. :D

They make side mounts for Winchester modl 94's. It puts the scope just to the left of bbl. Your head should line up with it without any uncomfort. The only trouble I had was the shell catching the windage adjustment knob. We had to turn the scope so that the windage knob became the elevation. It will mess with ya when sighting it in, but once you figure it out, it isnt to bad. Just so you know, my rifle was made in 1969 according to the serial number. I got it when I was 11 along with the Simmons 3-9x32 scope that is still on it.

All I did was remove some factory screws and replace them with the ones provided with the mount.

I dont know, but I am guessing the whole kit and caboodle, minus the scope, will run about $40-50. Mine is a Weaver mount and cost $13.50 at Midway and the side mount rings are $27.50. B-Square has a complete kit for $55. There are others, but this just gives an idea.

The older 94's will need to be drilled an tapped and like Bowhunters said don't rush the gunsmith, but don't tell to take his time either. When you find a good gunsmith just ask him if he will do it and let it go at that. If you tell the gunsmith to take his time, you can bet some of his other projects will pass yours up.
