Did you get the short carbine M44's or the long ones? I had a carbine version but go rid of it. It didn't fit well and kicked like a mule. If it shoots well and you are comfortable with the rifle, its more than enough gun for deer.

I have one and I love it,I use it to hunt with all the time and it is really fun (and cheap to shoot) mine has taken a beating and it still is very accurate, never had any problems from it,haven't killed any thing with it yet though ,The only thing I have against it is that it is a russian gun and it was made for smaller guys and I am 6'2 so it is a little bit harder to aim being so close to my face(the stock is short) and I have to move my head when I open the bolt after shooting it or I get hit in the face :) They don't kick that hard but they are REALLY loud.I got mine for under a 100 bucks and dirt cheap ammo.Go to this web site they have that gun and the ammo for cheap Have fun shooting it :D
If you can't dodge it Ram it.
