First off, welcome to the DHC forum.

A pump is always going to be more reliable/dependable than a semiauto, you can end up hunting in the rain and get mud, dirt, foreign debree that can all cause a semiauto problems, however todays semiautos are very very reliable as long as you clean and lube it between hunts, personally I wouldn't have a problem with either one.

I own one semi auto, 2 pumps and an over-under shotgun.

Neither the pump or the semiauto will be more accurate than the other, on rifles you may have heard that bolt actions are usually more accurate than semiauto rifles but that isn't the case so much on shotguns.

Either the Mossberg 930 slugster or Remington 870 slug that you mention would work great, another brand to consider would be Benelli especially if you decide to go semiauto as they also make excellent shotguns.

You can get a shotgun in camo paint if thats what you want and you can get them with just a rifled barrel for deer slugs with a scope mount if deer sized game is all you hunt or with two barrels (one rifled and one smooth bore) so you can use it for bird hunting also.

Whether we are talking shotguns, rifles, handguns, hunting gear, etc. I really don't like to point at any one brand as best as its in the eye of the beholder, all hunting shotguns today are very good quality and everyone thinks theirs is the best and saying this one is better than that one can be a touchy issue.

If you really want to get accurate and dependable with a shotgun, the way to go is a break open with a heavy (and Im talking HEAVY) barrel. Im actually looking into the H&R 1871 Ultra slug gun to play around with and see just how accurate I can make it. I wouldnt want to carry it around in the field for any distance, as it weighs 10 1/2 lbs, but it will be fine for stand hunting. The price is ridiculously low too. Heres a pic so you can get an idea of just how heavy the barrel is on the 12ga

I could not agree with NYBuckhunter more. I own a 20ga. Ultra Slug hunter and I mean to tell you that gun is a tack driving machine. I will warn you that the gun is heavy, but dependable and accurate.

I also own a Winchester 1300 12ga pump. That gun is also very accurate with the right ammunition though. With slug guns I have found that you need to work with several different brands till you find the brand that your gun likes. Another key if shooting sabot slugs you need to clean the barrel after about 5 shots or the plastic coated sabots gum up the rifling in the barrel.

Your question pump or semi Pump or single shot, I have gotten pretty quick at popping out that first shell and putting another in the chamber ready for follow up if needed. Good Luck and good hunting

Hoyhunter81 good luck with the mossberg. As I said above make sure that when you do go to sight in your new slug gun that you buy several different boxes of slugs to try. Some that I can suggest are Lightfield, Winchester Supreme with the Nosler Partition gold bullet those are two brands that I have seen shoot very well in several differnt brand slug guns. Also, please make sure to clean that barrel after every 5 shots it will help tremendously. Good luck with your new firearm and good luck this season.

I believe pumps are inherently a little more accurate them semi's. Ive seen some flinch fro mthe action cycling and they shot pumps, singles a little better. Other then that its a matter of taste/preference. I shoot a Winchester 1300 12ga.
