Mossberg ATR????

Howdy folks,
Bout to get into deer hunting fore the first time(I know I need to hurry) and was wondering about the Mossberg ATR they have on sale at Academy sports. 269 is the price and it comes in .270, .308, .30/06 and 7mm...Anyone used one of these...I'll be hunting in Alabama in pretty hilly areas,,

I do have a Winchester 30/30, but its an heirloom and I don't wanna drill it up to mount a scope. Then I found a scope mount combo at Cabela's for 60 bucks for my Russian SKS.. Should I try the Mossberg or scope the SKS and see if I have what it takes before spending a bunch of money?

Just use the SKS if you dont even know if you will continue hunting. I have a Chinese version myself, and it is a damn good rifle. Just be aware that if you use the mount that locates the scope mount behind where the shell ejects, get a deflector plate so that the shell doesnt hit your scope. You can get them through cheaperthandirt.com

Cabela's has the scope combo, a 4x32 for 59 bucks..But I found another one with a see through mount and a 3x9x40 for 79....it was a Leapers scope...anyone used either?
