Mouse kills a Deer.

For those of us who like to shoot with a camera.

Mouse kills a Deer.

I was getting very fed up of not being able to go shooting at weekends, what with family commitments and work and so on and so forth, so this weekend I decided that after I had cleaned out the pet rabbits (all four cages!) that I would head off and have a look for a Deer.
1:40pm and I'm finished, says to the wife that I'm off out, she said "Oh" in a very surprised yet cheesed off voice, "tuff" I thought to myself, I'm going! 8)
I stuck the .243 in the car and headed off to the farm, called James to see if he could come and play but he was busy doing family things so I was on my own.
I arrived just after 2:00 pm and made my way down the fields, stopping every few yards to have a scan around with the range finder, nothing showing, made my way through the woods and into a secluded field (the one that we use to sight up in) surrounded by woods, and found a good vantage point to sit and wait. I waited for 30 minutes or so and decided that I would have a little walk around the perimeter of the field so that I could see if there was anything in the tree line. After about a third way round a Roe Doe jumped out of the bracken and bounced over the field and into the woods, she never stopped and so I was unable to get a shot. :(
As I walked around the edge of the field I kept an eye on the bankings that are in this woodland and noticed a Fox earth, :D will pay it a visit soon!
Anyway, time was drawing on now I had about 30 minutes of daylight left and so I decided that the last chance saloon was the big cow field on the way back to the car. I walked back through the woods and to the gate, had a scan round, nothing, but there is a small rise in this field that obscures your view and so thought that I had better had a look just incase. As I walked up this small rise I saw a Roe grazing on the grass, she was quite a distance away but the wind was in my favour and I had crouched down out of her sight. I stuck a round up the spout and in comando style I inched my way up this little hill for about 20 yards until she was in view for me, I was now at the top of the rise and looking down at the Deer, she was stood next to a dry stone wall, right in the corner of the field. I put the rangefinder on her, 196 yards. "Right" I thought to my self, "Take it easy, its just another shot!" I re-assured myself, I took aim and as I did so she lifted her head and sniffed the air, taking in the scents that were being carried on the wind, all was fine, she lowered her head again and took a couple of steps, stopped and presented me with a perfect side profile, I took up the pressure on the trigger and when I was sure that I was on the button I gave that little extra squeeze and sent the Remmington hollow point on its way. The sound of the shot shattered the silence and as I watched through the scope I saw the Doe almost get knocked off her feet, she staggered, regained her footing and like a drunken giraffe she wobbled about 5 or 6 yards before falling over! I quickly grabbed my gear and made my way over to her. She was a beauty, a good size Roe in superb condition. I got out the knife and did the neccessary, then all I had to do was walk over two boggy fields with her to get back to the car!

Here she is..

This is a typical Roe deer that we have in the UK, we have 6 types, this is the 3rd up in size, after this they get like your white tails and bigger with the Red Deer. The gun has a sound moderator on it too, we are allowed them in the UK. :D

Sometimes I wish we were allowed sound suppressors.
Curiosity killed the cat, but I was a suspect for a while......
