My 7mm rem mag needs a new scope. Take a look

Postby matt_3479 » Sun Aug 30, 2009 6:23 pm

My uncle gave me a Remington Model 700 BDL 7mm Rem Mag in almost perfect condition. He bearly ever used it so its as close to brand new you will get from a used rifle :P. Anyways he put a crappy tasco scope on it, and im taking this rifle with me on my upcoming black bear hunt in 3 weeks and when i was sighting it in early this afternoon, the scope broke on me. Figures, just my luck. So im going out to get a new scope and i was looking at a Nikon Monarch 3-12X, 42mm with BDC recticle. I think this scope looks pretty sweet, and i was wondering what you guys think

What kind of bear hunting are you doing that you need a 3x12 scope?

I dont need the 3-12X scope for bear hunting, i need a scope and i will be hunting, whitetail, moose, caribou and black bear. SO i figured a scope that can do it all would be right

That scope will be just fine as long as your shots are over 50 yards, under that, even 3x is going to be a bit much.

If the rifle has iron sights, see if you can use a look under scope mount. That way, you can use the iron sights for short distance shots.

No such thing as a scope that will "do it all" get one with a high low power and you're gonna have trouble close, get one with a low high power and you won't be able to see as far out. I have a 2.5x8 on my bolt 30-06 and a 1.5x5 on my pump 30-06. But I rarely get a shot over 250yds at deer, most are under 100 and most of the bears I've shot were in a tree and I used a peep sight. A 3x9 scope will look a little blurry under 25 yards or so. Anything over that will be great.

^

I've never owned an Aetec but i've had a Simmons 44mag 3x9 on my 7mm Rem Mag for several years and it still holds zero and I put another 44 mag scope on my .270 win rifle, the 44mm objective lens pulls in a ton of light for early morning/evening when the the sunlight isn't great.

Some people poopoo them because they aren't big name high dollar scopes but i'll agree they make some very good bang for the buck scopes.

Great service also, I lost the rubber eye piece off the one on my 7mm Rem Mag while hunting in the woods, I emailed their support with the scopes serial number as proof of ownership and they mailed me a new eye piece the very next day and there was no charge for the eye piece or the shipping so it was nice to see them stand up for their products.
