My Scope!

Postby dcamacho13 » Thu Oct 30, 2008 5:08 pm

Here's my dilemma:

I got back from sighting my scope in and began to clean my mossberg 500. Now the scope is mounted on the barrel, so it is somewhat difficult to clean the bore without touching the scope itself. So I go about cleaning the bore with one of those lamb/sheep skin attachments and it gets wedged in the middle of the barrel. I try to be as cautious as I can pushing it out but I end up hitting the scope with my fist. Not only that, but I do it THREE MORE TIMES! I am worried that I have knocked the scope out of place and I am unable to go back to the range due to my schedule. I would like to know how much force an average scope can take until it is no longer accurate (I have a Bushnell Trophy Series 1-4x).

Well, I've bumped my scope fairly hard, say like dropping the gun a few inches, and then checked it out and it was ok. The best bet is to test it out before you shoot it. You wouldn't want to have a wounded deer get away on you. Better safe then sorry.

Go shoot it. Don't take a gun to the woods that you're worried about.

That is one of the worse feelings.Having that second guess about your scope.I bump scopes all the time and think there is no way that thing could still be on.I shoot it again and find it to be fine.On the other hand how many times have you heard of guys being sighted in before a trip. They arrive to there destination and thier gun that has been riding inthe truck tucked away in a nice soft snug gun case is no longer true. The truth is i think you are probably ok but the only way to know for sure is to shoot it again.
