I am not familiar with that specific gun or model. I hunt in DE and I can tell you what most of the guys I know swear by and I also have one . H & R, most guys I know swear by the 20 GA, I have one as well so I cannot speak to the 12 ga. I can shoot it accurately out to 150 yrds, which is awesome for a slug gun. Not sure how much you know, but it's important to know that there are both smooth bore and rifled slug barrels, Rifled are the way to go if you are going to be using it all the time specifically for deer. It is also important to find the slugs that shoot the best out of whatever gun you choose. Most guys I know swear by Lightfields. Me on the other hand have resorted to the chaper slugs (Rem or Win) and they do the job well. Slugs can be very expensive, up close to $10 for five shells. I hope this helps, let me know what you end up getting and how you like it. Wayne

Smittydawg covered it pretty good. I like my Winchester 1300 fully rifled barrel with a Red Dot scope. Some of those designer slugs can go upwards of $20/5. I shoot 12ga Brenneke K.O.'s and am so impressed I bought virtualy a lifetime supply so they would all be from the same lot and in case theyre ever discontinued. Alot depends on what or how much you want to spend. My current Winchester is my favorite but my 2nd favorite I lost during my divorce and if you can find one buy it as they are awesome shooters but a slug gun/deer gun only, Marlin 512 Slugmaster. Im not familiar with the Savage but they build good guns. The H&R/N.E.F. line is good too and they make guns from economy grade sluggers to ultra range bull barrel guns to economy pumps and auto sluggers. We've got several of their single shot deer guns in 20ga and 12ga for backups and loaners for our deer camps some with iron sights and some scoped out. Good Luck

While I do not have experience with the Savage 212 specifically, I own several Savages with the same adjustable trigger group and I can't recommend it highly enough. It's hard to imagine a more effective combination that the Savage trigger, a rifled barrel, and a sabot slug.
