need a rifle!

i am new to deer hunting and have only made a couple of kills, both being with a bow. i love the thrill of shooting with my bow but lately have been watching deer from afar while my buddies have been able to reach out and get them with their rifles so i feel it is time to step up my game and get to some real hunting. if anyone has a .270 they are willing to let go of for a reasonable price i am interested.

Look into a Marlin XL7. Great rifle for the price. Can get them new for around $350. If not, I would start looking at pawnshops in your area.

There is no more REAL hunting than getting within bow range and sticking one with an arrow. Unless, perhaps, you can do it with a spear or by hand!

Just kidding. I started with a rifle, but graduated to a bow. It's not much of a challenge for me anymore with a gun. Pretty much, if you can see it and pull a trigger, it's down. With a bow, however, you have to outsmart your prey, find out where they will be, and get yourself within a few yards of it. Then you have to shoot it without crapping your pants. Damn, I love bowhunting!!!
What doesn't kill me makes me stronger!

Your new rifle....

So, you got yourself a .300 Win. Mag. did you ?

Well, that ain't a big enough round. It'll be fine for squrriels and sech, but that will only make a white tail deer mad.

You'd better go with a .460 Weatherby Mag.

Naw, just kidding, a .300 will knock 'em for a loop ! ... Several Loops !

Good hunting.

Move up to a man's weapon,... A RIFLE !

Postby Bubba_JoeBob » Wed Dec 09, 2009 5:10 pm

Dawg,

I understand you sentiments about bow & arrows. They're girlie men devices. Real men use FIREARMS ! The heavier the caliber the better !
You can do some "REAL" damage with a high powered rifle !

When I was a little boy, I played with a bow and arrow set. But when I turned 12 years old, I put away such childish things, and began using a man's weapon, ... a High Powered RIFLE !

When you finally decide to become a "REAL" hunter, there is only one possible choice, ... High Powered RIFLES ! Damn right !

Now, now, ... clam down. 'Ol Bubba was only jokin' LOL ! ... I swear.
I just couldn't resist posting that after reading the threads ! LOL !

Fact is, I wish I had the skill to be a bow hunter. I have a hard enough time getting the deer to come into range of my .270 ! I have the highest respect for bow hunters. I wish I had their skill.

Just alittle "hunt camp" levity there. LOL ! Have another beer on me.

Good luck on your next hunt.
