Need help with a Remington 700 7mm Mag

Postby wsjax4 » Fri Sep 25, 2009 8:35 pm

I plan on buying one of these but I want a green or camo stock. The Remington website doesn't seem to be a good source for explaining the available calibers for all models of the 700. It looks like I will have to buy a Model 700 of some sort (no idea which) and then buy a stock from a dealer or find one on ebay. Can anyone tell me (1) which models of the 700 come in 7mm mag and (2) where can I find a stock like I want?

Thanks.

The green stock 'Model 700' that you mentioned is the 'VTR' and it is not available in 7mm.

The 'Model 700 'SPS' (Buckmasters Edition) is in a Realtree Hardwoods HD Camo and is available in -

243 Win
243 Win "Young Bucks" Youth model
270 Win
7mm-08 Remington
7mm Remington Mag ( #84174 )
30-06 Springfield
300 Win Mag

Model 700 'XHR' (Xtreme Hunting Rifle) is in Realtree AP HD Camo and is available in -

243 Win
25-06 Rem
270 Win
7mm-08 Rem
30-06 Springfield
7mm Rem Mag ( #84405 )
300 Win Mag

I listed the 7mm Remington Mag rifles part numbers listed from their site.

What about after market stocks? Are they available?

Yes, there are a lot of aftermarket gun stock companies out there if those two Remington factory Camo stocks aren't what you like.

I've never done it but you can probably buy a new action from Remington and then go find the aftermarket stock that you decide you want, if not you will have to buy a complete gun and then have the stock changed by a gunsmith.

You would have to take it to a gunsmith to have the action and barrel fitted/bedded into the stock or some stock companies you can send them the action and barrel assembly and they will do it. It must be bedded so that the action is anchored tight into the stock but yet the barrel has some clearance to float.

Never done any business with them but one company that makes great aftermarket stocks is McMillan, do a google search for ( McMillan Gun Stocks ) to find them and look at their Reminton line of stocks and there are other companies as well just do a google.

Whatever aftermarket stock you decide to buy you probably should first call them before ordering to make sure what Remington 700 actions it will fit so you'll know what to buy.

Good Luck!
