I would have to say patience will play an important role. I say this because depending on where you are hunting, private or public land etc the deer may still be a little nervous this time a year with rifle season ending a few weeks ago. I hunt on private land during rifle season because to many people on public land. What I do this late in the game is head to my food plots. I try to get there before day break giving enough time for things to settle. Also if you are familier with the area you are hunting and you know the routes the deer take you might want to try to sit on the travel routes. Also try to lacate bedding areas, thick brush is an ideal place, do you know of any place you could hunt that might have been logged off with in the last few years, I have my food plots next to some thick brush it was logged off about 6 years ago and the brush is still pretty thick, I see rubs, scraps, and tracks it there all the time..Just a thought I am no expert.

Thanks Kodiak...yea that's what I'm huntin' private land and some of it has been logged about 5 or 6 year ago has some pretty good thickets on it. Have been huntin' a thicket that has some good old and new rubs on the edge, trail comes up from the fields heading up the mnt. and passes through this area. Saw two bucks there during rifle season one passed me at about 8 feet no joke ... was a four point and we have three point rule in place. Another one came up oughta holler above me but was to far up the point in some thick stuff and only got a glimpse of him. Don't have tree stand but plan to have one up there for next year. Is hard place to hunt from ground but they are definitly moving through there. Trails go in every direction there and is hard to figure out just where to sit up. Plan on using some doe estrus and just hope I'm lucky....Hey man thanks for the info. Good huntin' And I'm huntin' Northern Arkansas. Have you seen the buck that was taken in Parthenon , Newton county Arkansas ? That was about 15 miles from where I'm huntin' hope his offspring moves just a little north LOL. I think the picture is posted here on the string huge Arkansas buck. Later.

NEED LATE SEASON HUNTING STRATEGIES !!

Postby Muncy-outdoors » Thu Dec 16, 2004 12:23 am

I'm hunting private land and plan on throwing in a few tricks along with back up plans from scouting. I'm putting outt a dripper with in ear and eye shot of me and putting a doe decoy out. I'm going in scent free (as much as one can) and laying down a scent trail. My stand will be between the feeding area (which is corn for me) and the bedding area. Bucks are nervouse when getting ready to enter open feeding area's that's why I want to be back from it a little. I plan on spending the whole day there and hope I don't get busted walking in. (I also break up my walking pattern so I don't sound like a person walking)
