New bow hunter

Postby billypankey » Tue Sep 02, 2008 4:47 am

This is my first year hunting with a bow, and it starts in 11 days. I have been shooting all summer long and have been very good at narrowing my shoot group down to the vital region. Is ther any tips for when im in the woods and where to set up at? I am hunting on Fort Bragg, NC if that helps anyone.

I might need to put in what type of bow i will be shooting it is a LYNX Xr Series by Martin. I picked it up at a pawn shop for $50, I have a 3 pin tru sight and just a standard rest, thought about putting a WB on it.

To improve your grouping shoot at a spot on the target and not just the target. In other words, when shooting at a deer, try to pick a rib to shoot or a tuft of hair to aim for and don't just put the pin on the deer and shoot.
Keep the tradition alive, teach a kid how to hunt.

if you have a 3-d deer target, put a small round sticker, like the kind used to cover gun shot target hits on the spot you want to hit,aim for it.This will also help improve your accuracy and shot placement.
Want my ammo?Ok,stand downrange.

If you are shooting a release it helps to have the trigger set to ur second nuckle instead on reaching for it with the tip of your finger it keeps you from jerking the trigger. also keep your hand open ( dont grip the bow) . and u should practice shooting with all your camo and facemask on. an armguard helps not only to keep from smacking ur arm but also so ur string wont hit your bulky clothing and throw off your shot. one more thing practice shooting out of ur deerstand because the gravity will make ur arrow shoot higher depending on your angle of shot.

Good luck hunting

This is a good idea the smaller the target the less room 4 error and your gropes will b tighter
