New Bow Hunter in Virginia

Howdy, y'all. My name is JD and I am new to bow hunting in VA. I originally from Washinton State and moved here due to being in the Navy and I am not real familiar with this area. I have been to the Chickahominy WMA twice and seen a grand total of 3 deer(all while driving). I am wondering if anyone can give me a heads up to where I could go to get a deer. I appreciate the help.

Welcome, just joined up myself!

Sorry to say that I do not deer hunt the area, do waterfowl hunt in and around the WMA. I do know there are some nice bucks there. I see them from the river. I hear tell, like most places, you need to have to put your walking shoes on...maybe even go in the back side from a boat...... The deer are hitting the acorns hard now and the rut is about to kick in so,you'll get that deer if you put the time in! Good Luck

Hey,

The problem with the Chick is that it is severly over hunted. There are several other smaller peices of public land that are open to hunt in the area that have a larger population of deer than the Chick. Four of them are Sandy Point State Forest, Game Farm Marsh WMA, Dragon Run State Forest, and Browne State Forest. I personally have not hunted these yet, I am planning on trying them out this season. I have to wait till the 13th, I hunt firearms. Let me know if you want to go with me and we can see what we can work out.
