NEW BOW HUNTER OLD BOW SEEKING HELP!!!

Postby trky slayr » Mon Jan 03, 2005 5:35 pm

hello, everyone Just got my first bow for Chirstmas and I can't wait to use it.It's an old bow thought. Some guy's were telling me that it's still a quality bow for it's age. It's a "BEAR WHITETAIL CLASSIC" they say it's about 10-15 years old but it's still brand new.I was just woudering if older bows still hold up to the newer bows? It's still new enough to be compatable with most of the on the market add on's.If anyone has any tips for,(arrow brands, shooting, sighting in,add on's etc..)please fell free to email or post it here. It's a 30" draw, 60# pull ,and 39" ,from cam to cam. I know it's not the new little fancy light weight one's they sell now.but like a old buick tougher than nail i guess!!
turkeys fear me! deer follow me?

hey trky slayr, that bow is all you need to kill a deer 60lb pull is more than enough to kill a deer, bear, turkey or whatever,as for it holding up to newer bows no it wont shoot as fast or as flat as a new 330 feet per second bow but it will kill just as good.
theres a few things you can do to speed it up a little bit like shoot carbon shaft arrows instead of aluminum shaft ones also hunt with mechanical brodheads they tend to shoot straighter at lower draw weights because the blades stay tucked inside untill they hit there target and then they fling open. if i were you id take it to an archary shop and get it tuned up and the draw length set for your length of pull before i started to practice with it. right now is a good time to buy archery equiptment at walmart its all marked down on clearence you might find a good deal on broadheads an arrows. the main thing is after you get your bow set up and you have time....... practice practice practice ,i made myself practice 1 hour a day everyday after work i started about 1 month before our season came in and kept practicing untill season went out it payed off i filled my tags with two perfectly placed heart shots on the two deer i killed this year.
well you take it easy and welcome to bowhunting once you get it in your system you cant shake it and when you kill a deer with a bow theres nothing in this world can match that feeling good luck an happy hunting

i just got my first bow for christmas also. i have a Reflex Excursion, easton carbon arrows(will get carbon express arrows later)100gr. muzzy broadheads, whisker bisquit droptine qs rest(for carbon arrows), working on a scott's release. i use the sights and quiver that came with it. going to get silencers and stabilizers when season gets closer. may get a fishing attachment later too. makes for good practice. hope this helps, and its my opinion only. what you get is up to you. most everything is expensive but, you get what you pay for.

I have hunted for three years with a BEAR WHITETAIL II which isn't that different. I got my first shot this year and had absolutely no problems killing a deer. I would agree that Walmart has everything 50-70% off right now. It is not all about your equipment but practice and shot placement is what kills deer.
Do your part for Missouri Conservation kill a doe.
