Postby foss8 » Mon Jun 29, 2009 3:51 pm

Hey guys I'm new to the forum and wanted to see what you guys thought about this bow I just got on Ebay for 125.00. I didnt want to spend a pile of money on one then find out I dont really like bow hunting. Any help would be great. It is a Fred Bear Bear paw the link is below. Also what arrows you think I should go with? Thanks again

I don't know anything about the Bear Paw except that Fred Bear is a well known brand.

You'll be best off taking the bow to a archery shop and let them look at it, they have charts they can look at to best decide exactly what arrow is best for that bow as arrows need to have some flexibility but also a certain amount of rigidity based on the power of the bow, draw length, etc. and also they can advise any other gear you need like a release, etc..

You will also likely need the bow tuned/adjusted to help shoot straight and based on how you shoot.

What draw length do you shoot. If this is a used bow have pro shop check for wear might need replaced.
What is the poundage you plan on shooting. If your shooting 55 to 70 pounds a 5575 gold tip xt arrow is hard to beat for price.
on the set up keep it simple at first.
with money being tight a prone style rest around 14-24.00.A 3 pin sight around 10 to 30 bucks.A quickee quiver 14 to 25 bucks.

It's not a numbers game. Go find a bow you can shoot and make sure you like it. You have to find a bow that feels good to you not a bow that everyone thinks is good.

A bow can have the most impressive stats in the world and still feel horrible in your hand. Its all about feel and comfort. Most any bow since the beginning of time can/could kill an animal... Its about personal comfort and if you aren't comfortable shooting it, then you won't. The best thing you can do is find a local pro shop with a small range and shoot every bow on the shelf. When I bought my bowtech, I shot hoyt, PSE, Mathews, Martin, Bear, Parker.....pretty much everything out there. It all comes down to comfort and fit. I hope this helped :D :D
I keep hearing this voice in my head that tells me to stay home and clean my guns...

A bow can sound really nice on paper but you need to get into some shops and hold a few different bows and draw and shoot them each bow has a different feel. I have been looking at getting a new bow but my old Browning bow still feels like it was made just for me. and I have become rather attched to the old beast..oops sorry started to go off on one of my romantic tangents.......D*mnit (tear) I love that ole bow....there I go again
Good Luck hunting and stay safe.
