I am from the Huntsville, AL area. I am coming to Kansas this next week on a last minute business trip. I have always dreamed of hunting Kansas. I noticed that Ft. Riley archery opens on Sept. 1st. I will be able to stay for a while if I could hunt, I just need to know if a non-resident can hunt at Ft. Riley. Here in North Alabama we have a base as well. I actually have my son in daycare there and have decals, on my vehicle, to get onto the base. I saw on KDWP that they have 4000 left over non-resident permits, so it raised my curiosity to pursue the possibility of getting in a dream hunt. Time is of the essence, so if any one knows what it would entail, it would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks
In the posts marked 'Sticky' I already posted quite a bit of info in links about Kansas and one 'Sticky post' on Ft. Riley and its hunting regulations.
Unfortunately from what you've said on your situation I don't believe you qualify for that early hunt -
a. Special Archery-Only Season: September 1-20. (Unlimited permits) All hunters must check-out and check-in each day they hunt at any of the eleven Fort Riley Self-Service Hunter Check Stations. Hunters may only hunt in areas listed as open for archery deer hunting on the particular day they wish to hunt.
ELIGIBILITY: The Early Archery Season is valid only on the Fort Riley Military Reservation (Unit 8a). Eligibility to hunt this season is limited to the following individuals:
1. Military and Civilian Personnel stationed in Kansas with an impending deployment date between 1 September and 30 November. 2. Immediate family members of those persons described in Para 2.a.1. and 2.a.4. 3. All Purple Heart recipients assigned to a Warrior Transition Battalion. 4. Military or Civilian Personnel on leave from deployment that would not be redeployed to Fort Riley by 1 December 2009.
My wife is considered civilian personnel here in Huntsville, but I'm sure she would have to be stationed there. I knew it was a long shot but I had to see. Thanks anyway!!
