New guy in Virginia

Postby Gil » Mon Oct 04, 2010 5:34 am

Hey all; I'm a brand new member here and wanted to introduce myself. My first name is Darin although many know me by Gil too. I am a new whitetail hunter looking for hunting ground in Virginia, preferably in or around the New River Valley but I can travel. I am a professional fishing guide on the New River in Virginia but am currently working in Baghdad, Iraq as a bodyguard/medic and I am also a Nationally Registered EMT-I in Virginia if any clumsy hunters need a hunting partner...I'll wear my vest!

Looking to meet other people to chat with in the long hours between here and home and hope to find good information regarding hunting whitetail and turkey.

Hey Gil,

Where is New River? I am in Williamsburg and looking for a hunting buddy. My regular buddy is currently in Afganhistan (I do not know how to spell) and will not be back for a year. Are you still in Baghdad? If so, when are you going to be back?

I live near Roanoke, Virgina- about an hour the other side of it from you. The New River runs North from NC to WV. I come back in January 2011, just in time to have missed everything! LOL

Well, hit me up when you come back, I have a piece of land that I can hunt on just north east of Roanoke, right on the James River.

Sounds like a plan, Hunter. I hope to be back for at least some of the next deer season! Do you bow hunt? I'm a novice, by the way, with deer. Used to squirrel and rabbit hunt with my Dad as a kid.

Gil,

No, I use firearms, I want to get into bow hunting but I just do not have the money for it right now. Maybe I will get lucky and the wife will buy me one for Xmas!

I was able to get a great deal on a bow at my local outfitter that was a consignment. Not a bad place to start!
