Hi, I just want to know if all hunting in the entire state of CA uses a lottery system on the game tags? I'm rather spoiled since where I'm from all you need to do is go to the store and buy a tag.

deerhuntress, the entire state is under the same system but everyone can get a tag. It's just that some zones are harder to get drawn for and some have an unlimited quota, such as the A&B zones. Most of the D zone tags are fairly easy to draw and a lot of them never fill up. Most of the X zone tags are issued durring the draw. The best thing to do is get a copy of the regs and read them. They will tell you the zones, tags available and when and if they sold out the previous year. Success ratios and buck/doe ratios are also listed. The Dept of fish & game also has the regs and a lot of other info on there website.

deerhuntress, I just wanted to add that you shouldn't get discouraged by how hard it is to get through all the different regs in the California system. The deer hunting here is a lot different than you are used to but the opertunities can be very good. I only hunt with a bow and by getting two tags my hunting season runs from mid August through December 31st. I hope you get your tag for next year and take advantage all the hunting California has to offer. We need more woman in the feild. Good luck.
