well here in maine this year we had the luxury of having No moon for the first 2 weeks. that plays a great role.

I had a 500lbs bear on my bait he came once beofer 8 o clock. and i couldnt get a shot.

i saw a 140 and 170 lb. bears tho. had a shot at those did tn take them tho.

as far as bring them out earlier you could try feeding them A LOT beofer he acctuall season startts.

then within the first couple days of the season. CUT BACK. to almost nothing.
and gradually buil d back up.

another thing that i have only tried once and WORKED AMAZINGLY
is this stuff called bearbait.

its at cabelas wal mart local staores etc. and its jsut this red goo.

the bears went for that insted of the acctual bait!
jsut put a little bit in a bottle and dump the bottle up[ high and hang it off a tree.

I guess it's different in your area, because of tremendous hunting pressure, but where I live (northern BC) bears are diurnal.

Active right at dusk, but once the sun is completely down, they den up. Then again, in midsummer to midfall up here, it's not completely dark to midnight.

I've taken most of my bears in mid-morning. I dislike taking them at dusk because I'm basically lazy, and want to work in the light.
