Nocturnal Deer

Postby chicodogus » Wed Aug 31, 2011 8:55 pm

I live in Northern New york on a beautiful 400 acre farm that I grew up on. We have shot some decent bucks but I know there is a few Large bucks. We cannot ever see them or get them on trail cam yet people will see them late at night or early in morning. Does anyone have any ideas or strategy to bring in one of these big bucks??? I have used apples, mineral licks, scents....etc.....

i have had the best luck leaving them alone no bait no hunting the area just staying away from him in fear of bumping him once the rut comes on move in thats the only time you will know for sure he is on his feet the the goal is to get him before he starts courting its tough try keeping an eye on the does you may see him pop up sounds easy lol

It's much too early and warm to be worried about noctornal deer. Dominant bucks are best taken during the rut when they are courting a doe and fending off other bucks. Put out a stand or two between the bedding area and the feeding area and leave them alone until the end of October and through November. Hunt from those stands then, and maybe use a little doe estrus, deer calls, and rattle the antlers and you should see him. Hunt from other stands during the other parts of the season.
