North Central VA

Postby sticker71 » Sun Jul 10, 2011 5:20 pm

Hello all,

I am new to this site. I travel working construction and am currently in the North Central VA area and will be here thru the winter. I have hunted deer for many years but since I started travelling for work it gets harder to find land to hunt. I have been looking into some of the WMA's here and from what I have read it sounds like some of them are pretty good for deer. I was hoping to get some more information here, not asking for any secret spots or anything like that, just wanting to know which WMA's are best for deer and which ones are not typically over-run in archery season. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

If you don't mind the drive and the walk a couple come to mind... The Chick WMA is good for deer & turkey allike another than may not have as much hunter activitly would be Cumberland. Both have a good pop of deer. Amelia and Powhatan also have good hunting but can get a bit crowded....

The G.R. Thompson WMA near Front Royal has a lot of deer...and a lot of hunters!
