Opening day of our fall turkey

Postby scott39 » Thu Oct 08, 2009 11:00 am

We had three longbeards roost pretty close the night before. the next morning we heard one cluck from the group. We waited for them to show,no dice. We headed for our other spot up the road and there they were in a pasture, with about 30 to 35 hens and poults. After about a half hour of callin the dominant hens got a little irate and brought the whole flock in! Including the 3 longbeards ,bringin up the rear. The two old hens came around a strip of thick junk. When they came around they pegged us in the open hardwoods. I figured shoot somethin or leave with nothin. After my buddy shot ,i eased up the tree to look over the brush. I took what was a good shot and missed the toms. We ended up callin in another flock from behind us and popped two more. We got a rarety with the first bird a hen with spurs. Pretty cool hunt!

Lots of callin,I gobbled the toms gobbled. Kee-kee's and assembly yelps is what brought em all in.
